I HEAR YOU AND EVERYTHING IN-BETWEEN

Me wearing my Bose Noise Canceling Headphones

Kind of interesting how many times I am asked, what  am I listening to in my headphones.  I am not listening to music, or anything piped into my headphones.  It is actually peaceful white noise that simply takes the edge off my poor overstimulated auditory system.  I am  so sound sensitive sometimes a person’s breathing bothers me.  I am so sensitive I don’t pay attention to one conversation but tune into several, as much as eight to ten at a time.  Try juggling that in your brain on any given Sunday.  I am hearing not just the words but also the emotions in the tones of people’s voices. There is so much pain it is hard to carry at times, but I soldier on knowing that I have only the power to hear but not the power to heal.

Just when I get calm something else will distract me and I am in this vicious cycle of overload.  I am wishing for more peace but the world doesn’t seem to hear ME, ironically.  How do I take all this bombardment of information?  I have to be very selective of what my mind dwells on.  Only good comes from good thoughts and bad comes from dwelling on the bad thoughts, whether they are yours or someone else’s.  I am grateful for positive thinkers and family who are always guarding their thoughts and words around me.  Maybe they are listening after all.  Knowing how my brain is presently functioning will hopefully help people understand me and others they see either wearing their noise canceling headphones or archaically plugging their ears with their fingers.  Just speak softly and kindly to us.  We will respond so much better.  You can then see us as we really are inside.

You interpret us by how we behave under such stressful environments yet without the sound chaos we are just like you, except our minds still run at 10 times the speed of most.  Everyone wants to be a genius, yet I’m saying it comes at a price not many of us would willingly  pay.  For those of us who have been gifted, just remember we might return it if we could.

I am so personally excited to share how it feels to be sound sensitive,  I will find your comments most enjoyable.  So please send a comment.

  1. I have a feeling your genius mind is operating just fine, it is only the imperfection of this system that causes system overload. Just wait until Jehovah brings the rest of us to your level and you just keep advancing!!!!!!!!

  2. I really have to work on lowering the volume of my voice Iz-Man. I’m going to try whispering to not only you, but others I meet as well. Appreciate the heads up! Keep the genius, we’ll work out the rest.

  3. Thank you for your explanation. I’m naturally a loud person so I will work harder to be considerate of how that affects those around me. I’m always thrilled to read your blog. Keep up the good work.

    1. Thank you for explaining your headphones. The white noise is a nice idea. I wear hearing aids and have difficulty hearing conversations when a lot of people are talking and it is mentally tiring. I like your blog and you encourage me

  4. Isaac, we would not have come to know our Grand Creator if he had not introduced Himself to us through his word. In the same way, I feel I am now getting to know who you really are & how you feel through these blogs you post! What a break through for you as well as for us. Your genius mind is just a glimpse of what we will all have soon without the overload. So much to look forward to! I will work on speaking softer. Thank you, looking forward to the next blog!

  10. This is profoundly helpful and insightful Isaac.
Knowing that, when you are listening to music, do you prefer to listen to one particular instrument or artist or do you enjoy the music from a band? What is your favorite instrument? What is your favorite band? All things Isaac we are enjoying!

    1. I love to listen to music and particularly love piano. I love all music but anything Mozart is genius. I’m enjoying Jude’s music as well. I will always expect you to play for me when we see each other. I love all instruments. Each one has its place in the orchestra of my mind. Isaac

  11. Hi Issac, I saw that you were following my blog and came to check yours out. I am so glad you are talking about your auditory hypersensitivity in a way that people can understand…my daughter also had this problem, but not to the same extent. Do you know about The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential? http://www.iahp.org
They taught us how to address this issue in the functioning of the midbrain….good news is that you can keep the genius and lose the hearing issues over time. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I wish you the best and thank you for putting your very wise, very important voice out into the world.

    1. I was on the intensive program at IAHP for almost 2 years and continue to follow a home program based on their recommendations. They were the ones who encouraged me to start blogging. I am encouraged to hear others who hope and love their kids. Please keep the faith. Love, Isaac

  13. Hi Isaac!

I’m Brandi Going. I am from Broken Bow. You may not remember me, but I’ve known you since you were a little boy. I remember going on a camping trip with my grandparents and your family in northern Arkansas, you were just a toddler. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your comments at the meeting. I really appreciate hearing such thoughtful words coming from such a young person. I can tell Jehovah has blessed you. We don’t have much longer in this noisy world. 🙂

  15. Hi, Isaac. I am sorry I had to leave our conversation abruptly yesterday, had to say goodbye to Sienna as she will be out of the country for quite a while. Anyhow, I read all of your blog, and this post was my favorite. I am fascinated with the different ways in which people perceive the world around them, whether gifted or not, and your description is vivid. I do get sensory overload often, where I need to lay in the dark or only hear running water, but I can just barely imagine how you must feel with it being constant. Thank you for sharing.
